SAINSBURY’S INTRODUCES SPOOKY PEPPERS
Consumers looking for a different twist to the pumpkin this Halloween will love Halloween peppers, appearing as a guest line in select Sainsbury’s stores during October.
Exclusively produced by leading fruit and vegetable specialist The Greenery, the Halloween peppers come in a pack of two - one orange pepper and one new spooky black pepper.
They also come with creepy cutting patterns to give the peppers their own spooky faces.
The unusual black pepper is a unique variety grown by Leon Barendse & Karel Berkhout in the Netherlands.
John-Paul Burton, commercial manager at Greenery UK, said: “We are always looking for different varieties of fruit and vegetables which we can offer our customers. These black peppers are only available for a short period but have come out just in time for Halloween.
“Mums and dads can use the peppers as a tasty alternative to the usual pumpkin. Children can carve out a spooky face to create a mini Halloween lantern – making these more of a treat than a trick!
“It is a perfect way to encourage healthy eating - a single pepper counts as one of children’s five portions of fruit or vegetables for the day. They are ideal as part of a salad or sliced and served with a healthy dip like cream cheese.”
